In light of the rapidly changing global situation presented by the new coronavirus, the Global Home Education Exchange (GHEX) will indefinitely postpone the Global Home Education Conference scheduled to take place in Manila, Philippines, on Nov 5–7, 2020. We are grateful for the work our conference planners have already done, which places us in a strong position to reschedule the conference when the situation allows.
As nations grapple with the crisis schools have been closed and families are seeking solutions.
For example, HSLDA has addressed the spreading of the COVID-19 virus through a press release and has created a quick start guide to homeschooling for those interested in homeschooling due to the current situation that is affecting public education around the globe.
The disease caused by this coronavirus, COVID-19, has been labeled a global public health emergency affecting many nations. It is an epidemic with the potential to become a pandemic. GHEX takes this step out of respect for the health of all those who might be involved as well as to acknowledge the seriousness of the situation. GHEX remains committed to holding an event in the Philippines and will be evaluating the situation regularly.
Homeschooling is a growing and flourishing movement, and GHEX will continue to create strong regional networks, strengthen global connections, encourage important research, and advocate for favorable policies. Home education is a human right that every country has a duty to respect and protect. Every family must be permitted to freely participate in home education regardless of their motivation or methodology and without undue burden or interference.
